Pros and cons
Lycamobile
Pros
- Entry pricing of £3.50 a month and unlimited data at £12.50 a month place it near the top of our price-from and unlimited tables.
- A credit check is not required, which is a shorter route to a live line than a provider that scores applicants first.
- Billing runs on prepaid and rolling terms and plan terms come in 1, 12 and 24, so a reader can start short and stay flexible.
Cons
- Roaming in Europe runs on fair use terms rather than being included, so regular travel calls for another plan.
- Lycamobile is an MVNO by mvno, where GETESA, Lonestar Cell MTN and yesss! are listed as networks, so readers set on a network seller should compare those instead.
- The entry price ranks 79 of 258 on our price-from list, so the lowest starting price in the comparison sits elsewhere.
yallo
Pros
- yallo starts at CHF 0 a month on a pay-as-you-go basis, so a second line costs nothing until it is used.
- Billing is rolling and prepaid and the plan contract length is 1 month, so a reader can leave without a long notice period.
- Europe roaming is included and the host network is Sunrise, so travel abroad does not require a second provider.
Cons
- On unlimited data yallo ranks 87 of 173, far behind its 1 of 258 showing on entry price.
- yallo is an mvno on the Sunrise network, while getesa and yesss! are listed as a network in their own right.
- Service runs in CH only, so readers based anywhere else need a different brand.
Who each suits
Lycamobile
Who it suits
- UK readers wanting a cheap prepaid data line: sim only plans from £3.50 a month, sold in the United Kingdom, with no credit check.
- Readers who want 5G or an eSIM but not a handset bundle, and who can live with plan terms of 1, 12 and 24.
- Holders of a spare phone or tablet who can manage fair use roaming and a set data allowance.
Who should look elsewhere
- Readers who want European roaming included in the price: Lycamobile runs roaming on fair use terms, and GETESA, Lonestar Cell MTN and yesss! are the alternatives to weigh instead.
- Anyone who insists on buying from a network rather than an MVNO, since GETESA (network), Lonestar Cell MTN (network) and yesss! (network) all sell as networks while Lycamobile is an MVNO by mvno.
yallo
Who it suits
- People in Switzerland who want a spare or second line without a contract, starting at CHF 0 a month.
- Travellers from Switzerland who need Europe roaming already included rather than a separate roaming add-on.
- Readers who are happy with pay-as-you-go data but still want eSIM, 5G and WiFi calling on one prepaid plan.
Who should look elsewhere
- People who would rather buy from the carrier itself, since getesa and yesss! are both listed as a network while yallo is an mvno.
- Readers outside CH, where yallo does not run at all, should look at a brand built for their market, such as lonestar-cell-mtn.
- Anyone whose main goal is the lowest unlimited rate, since yallo sits at 87 of 173 on that measure.

Questions about each
Lycamobile
What is the cheapest Lycamobile plan?+
UK Plan Smart is the entry plan, priced at £3.50 a month for a set data allowance. It is a sim only offer, so no handset is needed, and a credit check is not required. National Plus costs more for a larger allowance, while UK Plan Unlimited is the option for a reader who would rather not watch data.
How much does the unlimited plan cost?+
UK Plan Unlimited is quoted at £12.50 a month. On our unlimited price list Lycamobile ranks 44 of 173, so unlimited data is priced below the middle of the field. The figure is the same throughout, with no promotional opening rate listed for the plan.
yallo
What does yallo cost at the start?+
The Prepaid plan starts at CHF 0 a month, so opening a Swiss number costs nothing on its own. Data on that plan is pay-as-you-go, meaning you pay for what you use. There is no minimum contract on the prepaid tier, so a line can be opened, used lightly and closed again without a long commitment.
How much is unlimited data on yallo?+
The Swiss Max plan, which carries unlimited data, costs CHF 21.90 a month with no minimum contract. A further unlimited tier costs more than Swiss Max and also comes without a minimum contract, so the rate you renew at is the rate you start at rather than a promotional step up later.
